Liberal Party Refutes Claims of Ruby Dhalla Serving as Translator for French Debate
The Liberal party has declined leadership hopeful Ruby Dhalla’s request for a translator at the upcoming French debate in Montreal.
Party spokesperson Parker Lund stated that only the candidates and the moderator will be allowed on the debate stage with no translation provided.
Dhalla mentioned in a recent interview that her campaign intended to request a translator for the French debate because she is not fluent in the language.
However, she plans to attend the debate regardless and will deliver opening and closing statements in French.
The Liberals have scheduled two upcoming leadership debates, one in French on Feb. 24 and an English debate the following day.
The party will reveal the new leader at a convention in Ottawa on March 9.
