Man Accused in deadly spree resulting in the death of a 22-year-old woman
Accused of carjackings, a fatal crash, and shooting a 62-year-old who stopped to help crash victims, a man named Bradley Donald Towle, 41, is facing 15 charges, including dangerous driving causing death while intoxicated. This violent spree occurred on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast on April 21.
Towle is alleged to have caused a six-vehicle crash on a major highway north of Brisbane, resulting in the death of a 22-year-old woman identified as Jocelyn Grace Mollee. Additionally, police claim that Towle shot a 62-year-old man who had stopped to assist crash victims before stealing two cars at gunpoint.
Charged with offenses like unlawful wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and possession of methamphetamine, GHB, and suspected proceeds of crime, Towle was supposed to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on April 22. However, he remained in the hospital under police guard and had his hearing scheduled via videolink on April 23.
Although briefly mentioned on April 23, Towle did not need to appear in court as he had been transferred from the hospital to a police watchhouse. His solicitor did not apply for bail, and Towle was remanded in custody until his next court mention on June 30.
Towle’s solicitor revealed that his client was facing severe charges and that the case’s complexity would require a careful investigation and analysis from a defense standpoint. Towle’s injuries did not require further medical attention, allowing him to be held in custody without complications.
Court documents indicate that Towle declined a mental health assessment and that the crash he allegedly caused resulted in the death of Mollee, a passenger in the Nissan Micra. Subsequently, he shot a 62-year-old man, stole his SsangYong Rexton, crashed it, and then carjacked a Mazda 3 within a span of 25 minutes.
Police arrested Towle at gunpoint at the intersection of Steve Irwin Way and Forestry Road, Landsborough. Body camera footage of the arrest shows officers approaching Towle and handcuffing him, discovering a shotgun in the Mazda believed to have been used in the previous offenses.
