Man taken into custody for making threatening remarks toward Irish leader on the internet
A man has been arrested over threats made against Taoiseach (Prime Minister) Simon Harris online.
The man, identified as Patrick Grealish by several Irish media outlets, was taken into custody under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, by Irish Police (Gardai) on Sunday morning.
He has been charged with making threats to Harris, with the intention of causing him to believe that they would be carried out, to either kill or cause serious harm, without any lawful excuse.
Gardai stated that the arrest is related to threats posted on social media within the past week.
Grealish appeared in Galway District Court on Monday, where he was granted bail by a judge despite objections from the Gardai.
He is scheduled to appear in court again on Sept. 17.
