Man Wanted by RCMP for Attempted Theft of $12,000 Worth of Cheese
RCMP in North Vancouver are on the lookout for a male suspect who allegedly tried to steal thousands of dollars worth of cheese from a local grocery store.
According to police, the man attempted to break into the Whole Foods store near East 13th Street and Lonsdale Avenue, but their plans were foiled by officers patrolling the area.
While on foot patrol in an area that includes a laneway next to Lonsdale Avenue, RCMP officers spotted a cart loaded with various cheeses near the store, as per the release.
When the officers approached the cart, they saw a man emerging from a stairwell linked to the grocery store. The man fled upon seeing the officers, and despite police attempts to apprehend him, he managed to escape.
Authorities state that their investigation is ongoing, and they suspect that the man broke into the store and was interrupted in the process of stealing the cheese.

Store employees stated that the total value of the stolen cheese was $12,800.
Unfortunately, the cheese had to be discarded as it was no longer fit for sale after being taken out of the fridge, as per the RCMP news release.
Police emphasized the importance of proactive patrolling by officers in preventing and deterring crimes in the area.
Const. Mansoor Sahak, the media relations officer for the North Vancouver RCMP, explained, “This incident showcases the efficacy of our officers in proactively patrolling high-crime areas to prevent criminal activities from taking place.”
