Manitoba Premier Advocates for Life Sentence for Jeremy Skibicki
Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew believes that convicted serial killer Jeremy Skibicki should never be released as a free individual.
Skibicki has been given a life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years for the murder of four Indigenous women in Winnipeg.
The maximum penalty of four concurrent life sentences and 25 years without parole eligibility has been imposed by the law.
Kinew insists that Skibicki should never have freedom again, and any future parole hearings should consider the impact of the murders on family members and others.
Two years ago, the Supreme Court of Canada overturned a law that allowed for consecutive sentences with longer periods of parole ineligibility.
During the trial, it was revealed that Skibicki targeted his victims at homeless shelters, where he would strangle or drown them before disposing of their remains in garbage bins.
