Manufacturing Sales in February Reach $72.9 Billion, Increasing by 0.2%: Statistics Canada

Statistics Canada reports that total manufacturing sales reached their highest point since September 2023, growing by 0.2 percent to $72.9 billion in February.

The agency notes this marks the fifth consecutive month of growth, with sales increasing in 11 out of the 21 subsectors it monitors.

Sales of primary metals saw a significant increase of 8.3 percent, reaching a record $6.9 billion in February, driven by higher demand and prices for various non-ferrous metals such as alumina and aluminum products.

Chemical product sales also saw a notable rise of 6.7 percent, totaling $5.3 billion in February.

Conversely, sales in the petroleum and coal product subsector fell by 5.2 percent to $8.1 billion due to reduced demand and slightly softer prices.

When adjusted for inflation, overall manufacturing sales remained unchanged in February.
