Thousands of people joined the annual March for Life in central London on Saturday. The march began at the Emmanuel Centre and ended at Trafalgar Square with speeches in Parliament Square. Counterprotests were organized by groups such as Antifa and the Sex Worker Advocacy and Resistance Movement (SWARM), but were kept under control by a strong police presence. The debate over abortion laws in the UK has reached a critical point, with abortion advocates pushing for the legalization of late-stage abortions. Catherine Robinson, spokesperson for Right To Life UK, expressed gratitude to the organizers of the march and emphasized that the proposal to extend abortion time limits is not supported by the majority of women. Pro-life activists, advocating for abortion up to birth, held their own counterprotest outside the Emmanuel Centre. Several speakers at the event highlighted the growing momentum on the pro-life side of the debate, pointing to the recent overturning of Roe v. Wade in the United States. David Kurten, leader of the Heritage Party, expressed his support for the march and called for a repeal of the 1967 Abortion Act. The event also saw the participation of secular groups, such as Abortion Resistance, who emphasized that the pro-life stance is based on biology. Lois McLatchie Miller of Alliance Defending Freedom UK expressed her frustration with the narrative that abortion is empowering for women and called for more media coverage of the abortion debate. The event saw significant participation from young people, including students, who emphasized the importance of speaking up for the voiceless and innocent.
