Mark Carney to announce Cabinet Ministers at Friday morning event
Mark Carney is set to announce his cabinet lineup on Friday morning, consisting of Liberal ministers who will guide Canada towards the next election.
The official swearing-in ceremony for Carney’s government will take place at 11 a.m. at Rideau Hall.
It is anticipated that the new cabinet will have fewer positions than the 37 in Justin Trudeau’s cabinet.
Seven current cabinet members, including Justice Minister Arif Virani and Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAulay, have confirmed they will not seek re-election.
The core team that has been instrumental in handling the trade dispute with the U.S. plans to run for re-election, including Foreign Affairs Minister Mélanie Joly, Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne, Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc, and Public Safety Minister David McGuinty.
Carney will need to consider whether to include his former leadership competitors, ex-ministers Chrystia Freeland and Karina Gould, in ministerial roles.
