Mark Carney’s campaign for leadership announces it has gathered $1.9 million in funding
A spokesperson for Mark Carney’s leadership campaign has announced that they have raised over $1.9 million from more than 11,000 donors.
Mandatory biweekly reports are to be submitted by Liberal leadership contenders to the chief electoral officer, and Carney’s team has submitted their latest report which includes donations up to Feb. 9.
Chrystia Freeland’s campaign spokesperson stated that they are “feeling very positive” after hosting several fundraisers but did not disclose the amount of funds raised.
Ruby Dhalla’s campaign has not yet provided official fundraising numbers but mentioned that they have been quite successful.
Queries regarding their fundraising efforts from Karina Gould and Frank Baylis have not been responded to by their spokespeople yet.
The leadership race has just over three weeks left, with the party set to elect the next prime minister on March 9.

Earlier in the campaign, Gould urged her supporters to assist in a fundraising campaign to remain competitive in the race.
Contestants are required to raise sufficient funds to cover a $350,000 entry fee, payable in installments with the final $125,000 due by Monday.
Each campaign is permitted to spend a maximum of $5 million, excluding entry fees and certain other expenses.
The leadership campaign fundraising adheres to regulations outlined in the Elections Canada Act, prohibiting contributions from corporations, unions, or non-residents.
Elections Canada is anticipated to release the initial batch of fundraising figures for all candidates next week.
In the previous Liberal leadership contest, Justin Trudeau raised slightly over $2 million from 10,500 individual donations and 60 fundraisers.
The race commenced in November 2012 and concluded in April 2013, with candidates facing a spending cap of $950,000.
