‘Massive Attack Unleashed as Ukraine Employ Drones to Target 6 Russian Regions Amid Kyiv Assault’
A series of aerial drone attacks targeted six different regions in Russia, causing significant damage. Dmitry Peskov, spokesman for the Kremlin, stated that the majority of the drones targeted civilian facilities. Russian air defenses were able to neutralize most of the incoming drones, but some successfully struck their intended targets. In the northwestern Pskov region, military transport planes were damaged or destroyed, and an airport was set on fire. Although no fatalities were reported, the airport had to temporarily halt its operations, disrupting air traffic. The Pskov region is located far from eastern Ukraine but shares borders with Belarus, Latvia, and Estonia. The attacks also occurred in other regions of Russia, including Oryol, Ryazan, Kaluga, and Bryansk, where drones caused varying degrees of damage. Additionally, an attempted attack on a television transmission tower occurred in Bryansk. In the Moscow region, an aerial drone was intercepted, temporarily halting air traffic in the capital. In addition to the drone attacks, seaborne drones attempted to strike targets near Sevastopol in the Crimean Peninsula, which Russia effectively annexed in 2014. Russian naval forces were able to prevent these attacks. Ukrainian forces have been engaged in a counter-offensive against Russia, attempting to retake territory. Russian officials disputed Ukrainian claims of progress, stating that Ukrainian forces had only approached the first line of defense. This wave of drone attacks coincided with renewed Russian barrages on Kyiv, resulting in casualties.
