Matt Hancock Claims Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System Was Phase 4 Trial
During the COVID Inquiry, former Health Secretary Matt Hancock was questioned about a WhatsApp exchange with Sir Chris Whitty where he expressed concern about ‘shonky’ details. Hancock mentioned that the monitoring systems for vaccine adverse reactions and effectiveness were akin to a phase 4 trial.
He explained that the pharmacovigilance system was continuously evaluating the vaccines’ effectiveness throughout the rollout. Hancock was speaking at his fourth appearance before the inquiry, chaired by Baroness Heather Hallett.
Hancock was asked about a message where he questioned the strength of the pharmacovigilance system post-rollout. In response, Whitty mentioned the need for improvement and indicated that there would be cases.
When asked about the meaning of “cases,” Hancock speculated it could refer to adverse reactions or COVID-19 occurrences among the vaccinated. He defended the vaccine rollout, emphasizing its safety and efficacy in saving lives.
Hancock acknowledged concerns about vaccine mandates and misinformation, highlighting efforts to address vaccine hesitancy. He mentioned the government’s strategy to engage with various groups to promote vaccination.
He also discussed the impact of coercion on vaccination rates, noting that it could result in resentment among individuals forced to take the vaccine. The ongoing inquiry aims to examine the effects of vaccines and other drugs, with further testimony scheduled.
