McGill Withdraws Injunction Case Against Pro-Palestinian Camp Following Site Disassembly

McGill University has withdrawn its injunction request against a pro-Palestinian encampment, a little over two weeks after removing the collection of tents from its campus.

All parties were scheduled to appear at the Montreal courthouse on July 25 for a hearing, but none of the lawyers showed up.

Subsequently, lawyers representing McGill and some of the protesting groups confirmed that the university had dropped the injunction request.

On July 10, the university employed a private security firm to take down the encampment that had been present on the school’s lower field since late April.

In mid-May, the university was unsuccessful in obtaining an emergency court order to have the protesters removed by the police. Before today’s withdrawal, the case was progressing through the courts to be heard on its merits.

In a brief statement, the university mentioned that the court action was no longer needed because the camp had been dismantled.
