A Texas National Guard member has been removed from his position after allegedly shooting and injuring a Mexican citizen in Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua. The Mexican Foreign Ministry has been closely monitoring the incident, and the Texas Department of Public Safety has launched an investigation at the request of the Consulate General of Mexico in El Paso. The National Guard member involved in the shooting has been separated from his position until the investigation is concluded. DPS is collaborating with US federal authorities and Mexican state and federal authorities to strengthen the investigation. Mexican officials expressed concern about the impact on human rights, safety, and integrity of migrants. Both parties emphasized the importance of communication and training for Texas National Guard members deployed on the border. The Mexican government is committed to preventing such incidents in the future and will continue to cooperate with US and Mexican authorities. The identity of the National Guard member and the injured man have not been disclosed. The shooting occurred while the 22-year-old Mexican man was jogging, resulting in a gunshot wound to his buttocks. He has been released from the hospital. Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador called the shooting a violation of international law, but added that the soldier had acted in defense of a migrant who was allegedly being targeted. The Border Network of Human Rights has criticized the Texas National Guard’s actions and called for an investigation into the use of lethal force. Operation Lone Star, launched by Texas Governor Greg Abbott in response to the border crisis, aims to secure the border through the joint efforts of the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Texas National Guard.
