Military Leaders Reveal Dropping Vaccine Mandate Would Dilute Institution’s Credibility
Following the federal government’s announcement to suspend vaccine mandates in June 2022, military leaders were evaluating their own related policies. Some expressed concerns that rescinding the Chief of the Defence Staff (CDS) Directive would weaken the credibility of the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF). Minutes from a Strategic Operations Planning Group (SOPG) meeting on June 15, 2022, noted that this decision could impact the relationship between the strategic and tactical levels within the institution. The comments were attributed to the CAF’s Director Military Careers Administration (DMCA), as detailed in an email sent by Colonel Krystle Connerty from the Strategic Joint Staff, which was obtained through the access to information system.
