Monarchists reveal their own design for $5 note following RBA decision to remove King Charles’ image
An Australian monarchist group has criticized the Reserve Bank of Australia’s decision to remove the monarch from the $5 note, calling it ‘neo-communism.’
In response to the RBA’s plans, the Australian Monarchists League has proposed its own design featuring King Charles on the note, along with Indigenous themes.
The RBA had announced that it would replace the monarch on the $5 note with Indigenous themes to honor the connection of First Nations peoples to the country.

RBA Assistant Governor Michelle McPhee mentioned that the new note will be inspired by Indigenous concepts, with consultations costing over half a million dollars.
In response, the Australian Monarchists League plans to submit their own design for the $5 note, incorporating both Indigenous themes and King Charles.

The AML’s design aims to maintain the recognizable pink color of the note while incorporating input from both Indigenous and non-Indigenous contributors.
Philip Benwell, AML National Chairman, criticized the decision to remove the monarch from the $5 note, calling it politically motivated and divisive, labeling it as “neo-communism.”
Opposition Leader Peter Dutton also spoke out against the RBA’s plans, describing them as an assault on democracy and institutions.
The AML received support from the opposition, with a letter stating that the monarchy is a fundamental part of Australia’s stability as a democracy.
