Montreal Announces Public Consultations to Improve Homeless Services Management
The City of Montreal has announced that it will conduct public consultations on improving the integration of services for homeless people with the surrounding neighborhoods.
This decision comes as residents living near organizations that cater to vulnerable populations have expressed concerns about visible drug use, homelessness, and disturbing behavior near their homes.
Mayor Valérie Plante stated that the city has taken note of the worries raised by businesses, families, and community members regarding the management of these resources.
She emphasized the growing demand for these services and the city’s commitment to engaging citizens to ensure that future initiatives are implemented in a more harmonious manner.
The city’s public health director highlighted the increasing visibility of homelessness in Montreal, attributing it to factors such as the housing crisis, drug issues, and mental health challenges. He stressed the importance of hearing from various affected groups.
The city plans to release a schedule for the consultations in the coming weeks.
