Montreal Man Passes Away After Leaving Emergency Room Following 6-Hour Wait
A 39-year-old Montreal man passed away due to an aneurysm after enduring a six-hour wait in a crowded emergency room.
The man, Adam Burgoyne, shared his experience on social media, shedding light on Canada’s health-care system.
After waiting for six hours, Burgoyne decided to leave and go home, where he slept most of the day.
“At just 39 years old, Adam’s life was cut short too soon, but the memories he leaves behind continue to shape the lives of his family, friends, and colleagues,” the obituary expressed.
“Adam’s passing serves as a poignant reminder of the fragility of life, but his legacy lives on through the countless lives he touched.”
He is survived by his parents and siblings, as mentioned in another online obituary. The family has requested donations to be made to the Canadian Assembly of Narcotics Anonymous in Burgoyne’s memory.
The survey also indicated that 73 percent of respondents support the idea of patients having the choice to remain on a waiting list for local health care or receiving reimbursement from the provincial government for seeking care outside their home province.
About 5.2 million Canadians are currently on waiting lists for health-care services, according to a policy brief from SecondStreet.org.
Since 2018, nearly 60,000 patients have lost their lives while awaiting health care, according to SecondStreet.
