More Snow Expected in Calgary this Weekend
Calgary is experiencing its second round of winter weather in less than a week.
Weather warnings have been issued for southern Alberta, with 15 to 25 centimetres of snow expected this weekend following the season’s initial significant snowfall on Nov. 18.
Light snow began this morning, with heavier precipitation forecasted to start on Nov. 23 and end by Nov. 24.
The recent snowfall prompted clearing crews in Calgary to adjust their snow removal plan, focusing on clearing major business routes first before moving on to residential zones.
While city snowplows are working on clearing major roads, some highways and parts of Calgary’s ring road still have snow-covered sections.
The snowstorm on the prairies could lead to sudden reduced visibility for drivers, with road surfaces becoming difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow, according to Environment Canada.
Snow accumulations of 5 to 10 centimetres are expected on Nov. 22, with heavier snowfall on Nov. 23 totaling 10 to 15 centimetres before diminishing in the evening.
The second wave of winter weather began on Nov. 21, triggered by a low-pressure system that evolved into a “bomb cyclone.” This system affected parts of B.C. before moving eastward to Southern Alberta and is projected to move northward through the province.
Despite the sudden wintry conditions, not everyone is displeased.
