Mother and Daughter Killed in Old Montreal Fire, Two Suspects Arrested
Authorities have apprehended two suspects in connection with a fatal fire in Old Montreal from last week that resulted in the deaths of two French citizens.
The victims, identified as Léonor Geraudie, 43, and her seven-year-old daughter Vérane Reynaud Geraudie, perished in the blaze on Notre-Dame Street East on October 4.
At the time of the fire, there were 25 individuals inside the building, which included a restaurant and wine bar on the first floor and a 19-room hostel on the upper level.
Further information regarding the investigation will be provided at a press conference later today.
This incident marks the second deadly fire in the area in under two years, following a tragic fire in March 2023 that claimed the lives of seven people in a building with short-term rentals.
City records show that both buildings are owned by the same individual, leading authorities to suspect arson in both occurrences.
