Mount Etna’s Explosive Eruption: A Spectacular Display of Red-Hot Explosions in Italy
Europe’s tallest and most active volcano, Mount Etna in Italy, erupted on Nov. 12, sending lava and ash high into the sky above the Mediterranean island of Sicily.
Video footage captured the eruption, showing lava bombs being ejected from the crater and massive plumes of ash and steam rising into the atmosphere.
Despite the volcano’s activity and resulting ash precipitation, Italy’s ANSA news agency reported that the nearby Catania airport remains open for now.
