Multiple Injuries Reported on Sydney-New Zealand Flight Due to Technical Issue
LATAM Airline reported that a ‘technical event during the flight caused a strong movement.’
Following a “technical event,” numerous individuals were injured when a LATAM Airlines flight from Sydney to Auckland was disrupted.
The airline from Chile stated that there was ‘a technical event during the flight which caused a strong movement,’ in a statement released on Monday, March 11.
Upon arrival in Auckland, passengers were attended to by paramedics from the Hato Hone St John ambulance service.
The NZ Herald mentioned that at the scene, 24 patients were treated, with eight in moderate condition and 16 in minor condition.
Of these, seven passengers and three cabin crew were taken to Middlemore Hospital for medical assessments, with no serious injuries reported.
More than 10 emergency services vehicles responded to the incident.
Flight tracking service Flightaware identified the aircraft involved as a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner.
The LA800 flight departed on March 11 and was supposed to continue to Santiago. The airline assured that the plane landed at Auckland Airport as planned.
LATAM expressed remorse for any inconvenience and injuries caused to its passengers in this situation and emphasized its dedication to safety as a primary concern within its operational practices.
The airline has arranged a new flight from Auckland to Santiago on March 12 and is offering affected passengers with food and accommodation.
