Musk Offers Free Starlink Service for Brazilian Schools if Government Cancels Contract
According to reports, many schools in Brazil utilize a company to provide internet access to their citizens.
Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, has expressed his intention to offer Starlink services for free to schools in Brazil if the government decides to cancel their contract with the company. Starlink terminals facilitate high-speed communication by connecting to the company’s satellites in low Earth orbit.
The Brazilian government has announced its plans to terminate all contracts with Starlink, prompting Musk to propose the provision of the service at no cost.
This development comes amidst a clash between social media platform X, also owned by Musk, and the Brazilian government.
The global affairs team disclosed that the company faced fines for non-compliance with the order and could not reveal the affected accounts.
They contested the blocking orders as not being aligned with the internet regulations or the Brazilian Constitution, affirming their commitment to legal challenges where applicable.
Highlighting the right to free speech, due process, and transparency, the global affairs team emphasized the entitlement of Brazilian citizens to these fundamental principles.
Consequently, Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes initiated an investigation into Musk for alleged obstruction of justice due to his defiance of a court order requesting the removal of certain X accounts.
Musk expressed his intent to release incriminating information once the employees were safe and not under threat of arrest.
“The safety of Brazilian X employees is paramount. We must ensure they are not at risk of arrest,” Musk asserted.
