Nearby villagers say that the expansion of Heathrow Airport will ruin our community.
Hundreds of homes in the west London villages of Harmondsworth and Longford could face demolition if the expansion at Heathrow airport is approved.
Campaigners in Harmondsworth, a village that may be partially demolished for the third runway at Heathrow airport, express concern that the plans could devastate their community.
Justine Bayley, chairwoman of the Stop Heathrow Expansion group and a resident of Harmondsworth, warns that demolishing hundreds of homes would disrupt the village, impacting local businesses and transportation.
“The expansion would leave many residents stranded and the community devastated,” explains Bayley, noting the impact on the local church and tight-knit community.
The proposed third runway aims to enhance airport capacity and resilience, with Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves expressing government support for the project.
Vicar Richard Young emphasizes the deep emotional toll the plans would have on residents, describing the long-standing anxiety and uncertainty surrounding the potential demolition of homes and displacement of families in the village.
