Netanyahu Cautions of Potential Violence in Israel, Drawing Parallels to Trump Assassination Threat.
The prime minister stated in a recent interview, “There is an incitement to violence and murder of elected officials here.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu voiced concerns on Monday about the possibility of a Trump-inspired assassination attempt against him, his family, or other high-ranking Israeli officials amidst the ongoing conflict with Hamas.
“There is an incitement to violence and murder of elected officials here. It can happen because there is incitement to violence and murder of elected officials, of ministers, of the prime minister, of his family,” Mr. Netanyahu stated in an interview with Israeli broadcaster Channel 14.
He highlighted the frequent calls to violence, including references to historical figures like Ceausescu and Mussolini, and the threats against his son and wife, with their whereabouts often made public, attracting threats from Hamas.
“There are also threats of violence, threats of rape, other threats and slander against my wife,” the Israeli prime minister continued. “No one is doing anything about it.”
The FBI has identified the shooter at the Trump rally as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania, whom they believe acted alone. No motive has been established for the shooting, the FBI stated.
Former President Trump was unharmed, except for a minor ear injury, during the incident. However, a spectator was killed, and two others were wounded but are in stable condition.
President Joe Biden has urged patience in waiting for the investigation to reveal the shooter’s motive and emphasized providing resources for a thorough and swift investigation.
As for the shooting suspect, little information regarding his political beliefs or motivation has been disclosed so far.
Mr. Netanyahu is scheduled to address Congress about the Israel-Hamas conflict and recently announced progress in reaching a cease-fire agreement and the return of Israeli hostages taken by Hamas in previous attacks.
