Netanyahu Condemns Trudeau’s Call for ‘Maximum Restraint’ in Protecting Civilians

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu harshly criticized the Canadian Prime Minister on social media on the evening of Nov. 14. Justin Trudeau had called for Israel to protect civilian life in the Gaza Strip during its conflict with Hamas. Netanyahu responded by pointing out that it was actually Hamas, not Israel, that was targeting civilians. The word continued as reports of Israel attacking Gaza’s largest hospital surfaced. Israel stated that it had conducted an operation against Hamas, while the hospital’s staff and Palestinians denied these allegations. Trudeau had expressed his hope for the end of suffering in the Gaza Strip caused by retaliatory airstrikes on the area by Israel. The conflict had resulted in fuel shortages and humanitarian operations being withdrawn. The Canadian government was under pressure to push for a ceasefire and a safe exit for civilians. At the time, most Canadians had escaped the area, and the government was actively working to rescue the remaining citizens. Vivian Silver, a dual Canadian-Israeli citizen, was known to have been involved in the hostage situation, while one Canadian remained missing. Unfortunately, a 19-year-old soldier, hostage in the conflict, was killed.
