Netanyahu: Israel Ready for ‘Very Intense’ Conflict on Northern Border as Tensions Rise with Hezbollah
On June 5, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu indicated that his country is preparing to escalate military action along the northern border with Lebanon amid ongoing clashes with Hezbollah.
Israel’s northern forces have been engaged in battles with Hezbollah for several months. The group, known for its dual role as a political entity within the Lebanese government, has ramped up attacks near the border since October 2023, while much of Israel’s military focus has been on operations in the Gaza Strip against Hamas.
Israeli authorities suspect that a recent fire in Kiryat Shmona was caused by a Hezbollah rocket strike, burning hundreds of acres of land. Mr. Netanyahu commended the efforts of Israeli troops and firefighters in containing the blaze during his visit on June 5.
“We are prepared for very intense action in the north. One way or another, we will restore security to the north,” Mr. Netanyahu reiterated, emphasizing that Israel will not ignore Hezbollah’s attacks.
Netanyahu Allies Propose Sending Troops Into Lebanon
In contrast, the Biden administration aims to prevent further escalation along the Israel-Lebanon border.
