New Defence Chief to Assume Command in Change-of-Command Ceremony on July 18
The office of the defence chief has announced that a change-of-command ceremony for the country’s top military commander is scheduled for July 18.
Gen. Wayne Eyre revealed his plans to retire from the position back in January.
At that time, Gen. Eyre requested that his successor be identified promptly to facilitate a smooth transition.
The appointment of the defence chief is made by the federal cabinet, but the prime minister has not yet disclosed who will be assuming the role.
This year, the Armed Forces’ second-in-command, Lt.-Gen. Frances Allen, is also retiring, with a replacement set to be introduced in an early August ceremony.
