New Poll from Leger Indicates Growing Support for Conservatives and Pierre Poilievre

A recent survey indicates a rise in support for Pierre Poilievre, with most Canadians feeling positive about their household finances.

Tory support saw a one-point increase to 41 percent in the latest Leger tracking poll, while Liberal support remained constant at 25 percent, and NDP support dropped by two points to 18 percent.

The survey, which involved 1,554 Canadians, was conducted last weekend and focused on preferences for prime minister and economic outlook.

Due to the nature of online surveys, a margin of error cannot be calculated as they are not truly random samples.

Regarding household finances, 61 percent of respondents reported good or very good financial situations, showing a two percentage point decrease from January.

Another 36 percent of respondents considered their finances to be poor or very poor, with a significant proportion from Atlantic Canada falling into this category.

The survey also highlighted that 48 percent of respondents are living paycheque to paycheque, mainly affecting those under age 55, and over a third expressed concerns about job security in the upcoming year.

The political landscape has seen a shift since last July when the Tories surpassed the Liberals in popularity.

During that time, 35 percent of respondents favored the Tories, placing them six percentage points ahead of the governing Liberals.

In the recent survey, two-thirds of respondents expressed dissatisfaction with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government, with 42 percent being very dissatisfied.

Liberal support was highest in Atlantic Canada at 40 percent, while Conservative support stood at 61 percent in Alberta and 48 percent in Manitoba and Saskatchewan.

In Quebec, about one-third of voters favored the Bloc Québécois, with the Tories trailing closely at 29 percent support.

Men showed a higher likelihood than women to vote Conservative, and the party had stronger support in rural and suburban areas compared to urban centers.

Pierre Poilievre emerged as the top choice for prime minister among 27 percent of respondents, leading Justin Trudeau by 10 points, with NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh closely following at 16 percent. A combined 31 percent either chose none of the above or preferred not to disclose their preference.

Support for Poilievre was notably lower among women at 21 percent compared to 34 percent among men.
