Next Week, Biden to Host British Prime Minister for Bilateral Talks

President Joe Biden is set to host British Prime Minister Keir Starmer for a bilateral meeting next week to discuss their countries’ cooperation and conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza, as announced by the White House on Friday.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre mentioned that during the meeting, Biden will emphasize the importance of strengthening “the special relationship” between the United States and the United Kingdom.

The agenda will include discussions on various global issues of mutual interest, such as providing ongoing support to Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression and working towards securing the release of hostages held by Hamas terrorists.

Biden and Starmer will also address concerns related to Yemen’s Iranian-backed Houthi rebels, the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza, and efforts to ensure a “free and open” Indo-Pacific region.

Jean-Pierre further stated that the leaders will explore opportunities to enhance cooperation in supply chains and climate resilience during the meeting.

It was not specified whether Starmer will also meet with Vice President Kamala Harris during his upcoming visit.

This meeting will mark Starmer’s first interaction with Biden since his exit from the presidential race in July and his endorsement of Harris as his successor.

In a previous meeting on July 10, Biden and Starmer highlighted the strong alliance between their countries and the importance of bolstering their “special relationship.”

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation and supporting Ukraine during their discussions, as outlined in a White House readout.

Shortly after assuming office, Starmer pledged ongoing support for Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression, stating that the UK’s military aid will continue until at least 2030–2031.
