North Korea defies UN sanctions by launching 2 ballistic missiles


The U.S. military condemned the recent missile launches by North Korea and called on them to cease their ‘unlawful and destabilizing actions.’

North Korea fired two ballistic missiles early on Monday, with one possibly failing, which goes against various U.N. sanctions.

These missiles were launched from South Hwanghae province in the Jangyon area on North Korea’s west coast, heading northeast, crossing over North Korea itself, as reported by South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).

The launches occurred shortly after the completion of joint military exercises involving the United States, South Korea, and Japan in the region.

The U.S. military confirmed its awareness of the missile launches.

The first missile was identified by the JCS as a short-range ballistic missile, launching around 5:05 a.m. local time and traveling approximately 372 miles (600 kilometers).

Following ten minutes later, the second missile traveled 74 miles (120 kilometers), with no specified landing locations for either missile.

South Korea’s military spokesperson Lee Sung-joon mentioned that the second missile may have malfunctioned and exploded during an erratic flight, potentially scattering debris inland.

The South Korean military criticized North Korea’s missile tests as provocative and vowed to maintain significant readiness against further launches.
