Ontario Plans to Increase GO Transit Service with Over 300 Weekly Trips in GTA

Ontario has announced that starting at the end of April, it will add 300 more GO Transit trips each week.

Additional service will be provided on the Milton, Lakeshore West, Lakeshore East, Kitchener, and Stouffville lines.

Premier Doug Ford stated, “As part of our work on the largest public transit expansion in North America, our government is adding hundreds of additional GO train trips each week across the GTA.”

Starting April 28, weekend train service on Lakeshore West and East lines will increase to every 15 minutes between Oakville GO Station, Union Station, and Durham College Oshawa GO Station.

Travellers on the Kitchener line will now enjoy service every 30 minutes during midday and evenings between Bramalea and Union Stations.

The government also announced the addition of an evening train service on the Stouffville line running seven days a week.

Moreover, there will be an extra morning rush hour trip to Union Station and an afternoon rush hour trip from Union Station to Milton GO on the Milton line.

Milton’s mayor, Gordon Krantz, commented, “Investing in GO rail service is crucial for advancing Milton’s long-term vision and connecting people to jobs, students to education, stimulating the economy, and improving transit connectivity.”

Furthermore, commuters will benefit from a non-stop train every 30 minutes between Union Station and Pearson International Airport daily for easier access.

The recent introduction of One Fare for commuters traveling between different transit agencies in the Greater Toronto Area is expected to save riders over $1,000, according to Premier Ford.

Additional transit trips have been added over the past year, including 12 round trips between Union Station and Niagara Falls weekly. Additionally, starting April 27, the last train to and from Niagara Falls will operate at extended hours on Saturdays and adjusted times on weekdays.

Seasonal GO Explore services will begin on May 4, offering trips to Canada’s Wonderland and the Toronto Zoo.

The province anticipates that GO rail will accommodate over 200 million riders annually by 2055.
