Organizers of Freedom Convoy, Lich and Barber, Await Verdict in Mischief Trial
Today, Freedom Convoy organizers Tamara Lich and Chris Barber will receive a verdict in their joint trial concerning their involvement in a mass protest against pandemic health measures that took place in Ottawa over three years ago.
Lich and Barber faced charges of mischief, intimidation, and counselling others to break the law in connection to the 2022 protest, which brought thousands of demonstrators to Ottawa for a three-week period.
The trial concluded in September after 45 days of evidence and legal arguments were presented.
Justice Heather Perkins-McVey expressed the difficulty of reaching a verdict due to the extensive evidence and legal arguments involved in the case.
Pat King, another organizer of the convoy, was previously found guilty of mischief and disobeying a court order and was sentenced to three months of house arrest in February with credit for time served. The Crown, which initially sought a 10-year prison sentence for King, is appealing this decision.
