Ottawa City Officials Announce Private Israel Flag-Raising Ceremony
Ottawa city officials have announced that Israel’s flag will be raised on May 14 during a private event to celebrate the country’s national day.
The city has permitted the Jewish Federation of Ottawa to organize the ceremony, but specific details regarding the location and time have not been disclosed.
Last week, the city had initially canceled the annual flag-raising event citing concerns for public safety without elaborating on the security threats.
This decision sparked backlash from local and federal politicians, including Mayor Mark Sutcliffe.
On May 13, Mayor Sutcliffe stated that he had requested law enforcement and city officials to devise a plan to safely conduct the event.
