Ottawa Implements New Billing System to Secure Dentist Support
Health Minister Mark Holland announces that dentists and other oral health providers no longer need to register with the government to offer care to patients covered by the national dental care plan.
This change is part of the government’s effort to persuade dentists who have been hesitant to participate in the program for uninsured low- and middle-income Canadians.
Mr. Holland made the announcement during a press conference in Nova Scotia following weeks of tension with dental associations nationwide.
Last month, the minister implied that dental associations were actively searching for issues within the program.
Since the launch of coverage in May, the government has processed nearly 250,000 dental claims for seniors enrolled in the program.
Recently, eligibility has been expanded, and approximately 10,000 people with disabilities and 25,000 children have applied so far.
