Ottawa to Provide Transitional Financial Assistance to Palestinians Who Have Fled Gaza

Immigration Minister Marc Miller has announced that Palestinians fleeing Gaza will receive transitional financial assistance and support upon arrival in Canada.

The Immigration Department will provide funds to cover basic needs like shelter, food, and clothing, with more information to come at a later date.

In addition, the government will offer temporary health coverage for three months, settlement services including language training, and the opportunity to apply for study and open work permits without fees.

This assistance is available to Palestinians who have fled the Gaza conflict, regardless of whether they came through the special temporary immigration pathway for extended family or as regular temporary residents.

While over 4,000 applications have been accepted for processing under the temporary pathway, only 334 individuals have arrived in Canada so far.

Another 248 Palestinians have been granted temporary resident visas or permits, making them eligible for assistance upon their arrival in Canada.
