Parent Group Criticises Ontario Catholic School Trustee for Denouncing White Christian Males
A parent group has taken issue with a trustee at a Catholic school board in Waterloo, Ontario, after she allegedly said “the most dangerous creature on the planet is the white Christian male.”
The comment was made in a tweet from the account of Waterloo Catholic District School Board (WCDSB) Trustee Wendy Ashby. However, the account has since been removed from Twitter. Screenshots of the tweet have been reshared, including in an April 6 release from the group Parents as First Educators (PAFE).
Ashby and the WCDSB did not respond to The Epoch Times inquiry as of publication.
The tweet continues, “They’re a threat to anyone that is not them. #truth #facts #mysogyny #whitentitlement #racism #homophobia.”
Another tweet says “White women make obedient soldiers for the christofascist patriarchy.”
“This is a Catholic school board trustee, who has a duty to represent Christian values, overtly attacking Christian values and the people she is supposed to represent,” PAFE said.
Ashby’s campaign ahead of trustee elections last year focused heavily on LGBTQ advocacy, anti-racism, and indigenous advocacy.
“I proudly and loudly advocate for BLM [Black Lives Matter], anti-racism, truth and reconciliation in education, LGBTQ2IA+, [and] mental health,” she told local publication the New Hamburg Independent last year.
“As someone who identifies as Métis and settler, and whose family is diverse, a great deal of my education is based in understanding and furthering diversity equity and inclusion,” she told another local publication, The Record.
PAFE says Ashby appears to fight “for justice and acceptance for all,” but she doesn’t accept white Christian males.
“She is unfit to represent her white Christian constituents as a trustee, and she should resign,” PAFE said. As of April 10, PAFE had a little over 1,100 signatures of its 2,000 goal on a petition calling for Ashby’s resignation.
