Pentagon Unveils Plans for $275 Million Arms Delivery to Ukraine
The aid to Ukraine has been increased by the Biden administration during his final weeks in office.
President Joe Biden’s administration announced a new arms transfer to Ukraine valued at $275 million on November 20.
This arms transfer marks the 70th tranche of weapons provided to Kyiv since August 2021, months before the start of the Russia-Ukraine war in 2022.
The Biden administration is increasing aid to Ukraine as he nears the end of his term.
The Pentagon will provide Ukraine with non-persistent anti-personnel landmines that deactivate after a certain period and will not be used in civilian areas.
Reports suggest that Ukraine has been permitted to use U.S.-donated weapons for long-range strikes inside Russian territory.
The aid includes the most advanced weapons provided to Ukraine, including long-range missiles that can be launched using HIMARS.
The Pentagon did not specify the types of HIMARS ammunition included in this recent arms package for Ukraine.
The decision to provide more weapons to Ukraine may pose challenges for the incoming President, Donald Trump, who has indicated a preference for negotiating an end to the conflict quickly once he takes office in January.
