Poilievre Predicts the Focus of the Next Canadian Election: The Carbon Tax

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre emphasizes that his primary focus in the upcoming federal election will be the elimination of the carbon price, despite potential tariffs from the incoming Trump administration.

Poilievre argues that the carbon price essentially functions as a tariff on Canadians imposed by their own government.

In his first interaction with reporters since Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s resignation announcement, Poilievre reiterated his call for a national election to be held instead.

The prime minister prorogued Parliament on Monday, suspending all debates in the House of Commons until March, and will step down upon the selection of a new leader.

An election is anticipated this spring as all opposition parties have pledged to bring down the minority government once Parliament reconvenes.

Poilievre, who has maintained a lead over Trudeau in the polls for over a year, stresses that regardless of who assumes leadership of the Liberal party in March, he will essentially be campaigning against Trudeau in the forthcoming election as “they’re all just like Justin.”
