Police: Four individuals arrested for Ontario jewelry store robbery were out on bail
According to police, four out of the six teenagers arrested in connection with the robbery of a jewelry store in Markham, Ont., were out on bail.
York Regional Police have charged two 19-year-olds and four youths, aged between 15 and 17 years old, after responding to a call at a Markham jewelry store around noon on Dec. 4.
As police were on their way, a white Honda Civic believed to be the getaway vehicle used in the robbery rear-ended another vehicle in the same area. The Civic, suspected to be one of the vehicles involved in the robbery, had multiple occupants who fled on foot, with police giving chase.
Police mentioned, “Four suspects were quickly taken into custody. Two additional suspects were located hiding in the washroom of a nearby food establishment.”
Occupants of the vehicle that was struck by the Civic sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital, according to police.
The Civic had been reported stolen in Toronto on Nov. 10. Another vehicle, a beige SUV, is also believed to have been used in the jewelry store theft.
The two arrested adults are Remario Murdock, 19, and Trevone Ball-Barnes, 19. Additionally, a 17-year-old male, two 16-year-old males, and a 15-year-old male were also arrested.
All of them are facing charges of robbery with an offensive weapon, disguise with intent to commit a crime, and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
According to police, the two 16-year-olds, the 15-year-old, and Ball-Barnes were out on bail at the time of their arrest.
Police are currently seeking at least six other male suspects—four believed to have directly participated in the robbery, and two suspected to have been getaway drivers.
