Police release video footage of suspects throwing Molotov cocktails in Southern Ontario theatre
Authorities in southern Ontario have unveiled video footage capturing two suspects using what appear to be Molotov cocktails to ignite a cinema lobby while movie-goers were present over the weekend.
Police were alerted to the fire at the Richmond Hill cinema in the East Beaver Creek and Highway 7 area around 11:10 p.m. on Nov. 3, according to a press release.
York Regional Police investigators are searching for two suspects related to the late-night arson at the theatre, as stated in the Nov. 5 release.
Fortunately, the sprinkler system activated and extinguished the fire, with no injuries reported among the occupants in the second-floor theatre.
Upon arrival, the suspects tossed a bag against a wall with movie posters, ignited what seemed to be Molotov cocktails, and fled the scene in the grey SUV.
One suspect is described wearing black attire, while the other wore white shoes and a grey hooded sweatshirt, according to police.
Authorities are urging anyone with information on the fire incident to come forward.
This is not the first time the cinema has faced violence, as it was previously targeted in multiple shootings in May resulting in property damage.
Police reported incidents of shootings targeting the cinema, with no injuries in any of the occurrences.
Law enforcement noted that different vehicles were used in each shooting incident.
