Pope Francis’ Christmas Message Urges for Peace and End to Conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza

Reflecting on the Crib of Bethlehem, His Holiness Pope Francis I expressed concern for the Christian communities in Palestine and Israel, highlighting the community in Gaza.

In his annual Christmas message titled “Urbi Et Orbi,” which means “Cities and Worlds,” the pontiff called for an end to armed conflicts and civil unrest in Ukraine, the Middle East, and beyond.

He urged all individuals and nations to have the courage to seek reconciliation with God, put an end to divisions, forgive debts, and embrace Jesus, the “Prince of Peace.”

“This Christmas, as we begin the Jubilee Year, I urge everyone to walk through that Door, become bearers of hope, and silence the sounds of war and division,” he stated.

Specifically addressing the conflicts, Pope Francis called for the silencing of arms in Ukraine and the Middle East, urging for peace negotiations and dialogue between Ukraine and Russia, the release of hostages in Gaza, and the provision of humanitarian aid. He also expressed solidarity with the Christian communities in Syria and Lebanon.

He emphasized the severe humanitarian situation in Gaza, stating, “In contemplating the Crib of Bethlehem, I think of the Christian communities in Palestine and Israel, particularly the dear community in Gaza.”

He expressed solidarity with the Christian communities in Lebanon and Syria and called for dialogue and peace in conflict-ridden regions.

Highlighting the division in Cyprus, Pope Francis hoped for a mutually agreed solution that respects the rights and dignity of all Cypriot communities.

Moving to Burma, he prayed for comfort for those who have been displaced and called for effective solutions to promote social harmony across the Americas, specifically mentioning countries like Colombia, Venezuela, Haiti, and Nicaragua.

He also prayed for peace and relief in various African nations, including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Burkina Faso, Mali, Niger, Mozambique, the Horn of Africa, and Sudan.

In conclusion, Pope Francis urged for forgiveness of debts, especially those burdening the poorest countries, and encouraged individuals to forgive others as God has forgiven them.
