Presentation of Mark Carney’s Economic Vision to the Liberal Caucus
Former Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney is set to share his vision for the Liberals’ economic policy during a meeting with MPs in Nanaimo, B.C., today.
The party revealed Carney’s new role as chair of a Liberal task force on economic growth as MPs gathered for the caucus retreat on Monday to strategize for the upcoming election year.
Carney will provide direct reports to the prime minister and the committee in charge of developing the Liberal election platform.
His comments to the caucus will be private but he is expected to speak to the media afterwards.
Despite previous efforts to focus on economic and affordability issues after a decline in the polls last year, the Liberals have not seen a significant impact in the polls.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is also expected to address his caucus for the first time since some MPs have shared concerns privately and publicly about his leadership heading into the next election.
