Prime Minister instructs removal of meme ridiculing opposition leader and spouse
The meme posted by the Victorian branch of the Labor Party mocking Opposition Leader Peter Dutton and his wife was taken down one hour after it was posted.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese ordered the removal of the meme that featured a photo of Peter Dutton and his wife, Kirilly Dutton, along with a quote from Kirilly defending her husband as not being a monster.
The meme, which was posted on Dec. 30 on social media accounts, also included lines like “We all know that one couple” and “Justifying dating your new partner to your friends who don’t like him.”
Peter Dutton responded on social media, expressing his dissatisfaction and stating that his party would never attack the prime minister’s fiancée, Jodie Hayden.
He assured that the Liberal Party he leads will not target Hayden, emphasizing respect for her as a non-elected official. He made these comments on X, previously known as Twitter.
