Psychiatrist at Gender Clinic Issues Warning: “Gender-Affirming Care” Could Result in Widespread Sterilization
Dr. Az Hakeem compares the concept of ‘affirmation’ of gender dysphoria to grooming with the objective of transitioning children to a new gender identity. A London psychiatrist with 12 years of experience at the Tavistock gender clinic, which is government-funded, is warning that changing a patient’s gender identity is not the solution to gender dysphoria. Dr. Az Hakeem believes that countries embracing “gender-affirming care” could lead to mass sterilization of patients needlessly. He is the author of the book, “Detrans: When Transition is Not the Solution.”
According to Dr. Hakeem, “affirmation therapy” should not be considered therapy. He argues that this approach grooms children to accept the notion they were born in the wrong body. He predicts that society will witness a surge in individuals who attempt to revert steps taken to change their gender in the next 5-10 years. Dr. Hakeem’s book scrutinizes the idea of transgenderism and debunks its myths.
Dr. Hakeem believes that the mental health profession has been swayed by ideology and is critical of the fact that gender-affirming care is accepted as a popular course of action across Europe. He is disturbed by incidents in which vulnerable children are seemingly “groomed” to transition, often by parents, teachers, doctors, governments, or social media influencers.
In Dr. Hakeem’s opinion, the causes of gender dysphoria are often linked to autism, underlying trauma, or internalized homophobia. He questions the medical intervention commonly used to treat gender dysphoria, citing the absence of evidence for its efficacy.
Dr. Hakeem finds the pressure to coerce people to agree with gender ideology and reject scientific evidence “Orwellian.” He suggests that affirming children’s beliefs about being born in the wrong body is similar to pressuring someone to accept that 2 + 2 = 5.
After witnessing the practices at the Tavistock Center, Dr. Hakeem was disturbed. He witnessed what he believes to be incidents of “transhausen by proxy,” where parents seek to transition their children to meet their narcissistic needs.
Dr. Hakeem became concerned about the transition processes intended for young children. He recalls seeing data showing that many children under the age of 5 were referred to the gender clinic. He believes that most children who experience gender nonconformity or are questioning their gender grow out of it, especially during puberty. He is apprehensive about the clinic’s practice of transitioning children rather than allowing them to be gay.
