Quebec Government Allocates an Additional $413 Million to Airbus A220 Program
The Quebec government is injecting an additional $413 million into the Airbus A220 commercial jet program, which was previously known as the C Series.
Quebec Premier François Legault made this announcement during the afternoon at the Airbus assembly site in Mirabel, Quebec.
He mentioned that Airbus is committing $1.2 billion to the program and ensuring that two-thirds of the jobs related to constructing the jets will remain in Quebec.
This investment allows Quebec to maintain its 25% stake in the program and extends the government’s exit from its investment by five years, now set for 2035 instead of 2030.
This injection of funds follows a prior government investment of $380 million in 2022, subsequent to Airbus’ investment of $1.1 billion.
Back in 2015, the Quebec government funneled $1.3 billion into Bombardier’s C Series program before Airbus’s acquisition of the company in 2018.
The A220 jet is assembled in Mirabel and Mobile, Ala., and Airbus anticipates the program to turn profitable by 2026.
