Quebec Health Care Workers Union Members Reject Proposed Agreement with Province
Over 80,000 health care workers in Quebec, represented by a union, have rejected a proposed collective agreement with the province.
The FIQ (Fédération interprofessionnelle de la santé du Québec), which includes nurses and respiratory therapists, had 61 percent of members participating in an online vote against the deal.
The union plans to regroup with local representatives and return to negotiations in the upcoming weeks after the rejection.
The proposed agreement included a 17.4 percent salary increase, new premiums for evening and night shifts, and increased flexibility for workers to manage their schedules.
This rejection follows 15 months of negotiations between the FIQ and the provincial government.
Quebec recently resolved several labor disputes with other public sector unions earlier this winter.
