Quebec Liquor Store Workers Go on Strike for Two Days

Approximately 5,000 liquor corporation workers in Quebec have initiated a two-day strike.

After unsuccessful negotiations, their union—the Syndicat des employé(e)s de magasins et de bureaux de la SAQ—announced on Facebook at midnight that they would be going on strike.

This strike marks the first two days of action within the union’s 15-day strike mandate.

The union highlights that around 70 percent of its members work part-time or on call and is pushing for the Société des alcools du Québec to create more full-time positions and provide access to insurance and training for employees.

Salary discussions have not yet taken place during negotiations, according to the union.

The Crown corporation’s management mentioned that some liquor stores will remain open during the strike.
