Quebec Politician Temporarily Shuts Down Riding Office Due to Safety Concerns

A member of the legislature with the Coalition Avenir Québec government is shutting down her riding office north of Montreal indefinitely due to concerns for her safety and that of her employees.

Sylvie D’Amours reveals that she and her team have been subjected to threats and vandalism for years, with the most recent incident involving “projectiles” being fired through the windows of her riding office.

There has been a noticeable increase in vulgarity and other forms of harassment against Quebec politicians in recent times, and D’Amours speculates that the government’s plan to update flood zone maps may be linked to the violence against her team.

In a detailed Facebook post today, the representative for Mirabel states that communities like hers are using outdated flood maps and that climate change has heightened flooding risks across the province.

D’Amours highlights that there is a lot of misinformation circulating online about the government’s plans, and she urges residents to be respectful and not succumb to panic.

Concerns among Quebecers are rising about the inclusion of their properties in the new flood maps, which could make it harder to obtain insurance and lead to other financial complications.
