Quebec Premier to Reshuffle Cabinet Today Following Resignation of ‘Superminister’ Fitzgibbon
Quebec Premier François Legault is expected to shuffle his cabinet later today following the sudden departure of one of his most influential ministers.
Pierre Fitzgibbon, the “superminister” who held the economy and energy portfolios, stepped down Wednesday, citing a loss of motivation for his job.
Legault is set to conclude a caucus retreat today in Rimouski, Que., where he will host a news conference.
Afterward, he will head to Quebec City to announce Fitzgibbon’s replacement.
Fitzgibbon’s successor will take on a major energy reform bill, with hearings beginning next week as the legislature resumes for the fall session.
In addition to economy and energy, Fitzgibbon also oversaw the innovation portfolio and was responsible for the Montreal region.
