Quebec Premier Urges Bloc Québécois to Aid in Ousting Trudeau Government Next Week
Quebec Premier François Legault insists that the Bloc Québécois must vote to oust the federal Liberal government next week and initiate an election.
Legault urged Parti Québécois Leader Paul St-Pierre Plamondon to have the “courage” to ask the Bloc to support the anticipated Conservative non-confidence motion against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s minority government on Tuesday.
The Bloc and PQ, both advocating for Quebec independence, share similar ideologies and have a history of collaborating.
However, Bloc Leader Yves-François Blanchet later stated that he would not vote to overthrow Trudeau, stating that he represents Quebecers “based on my own judgment.”
Legault expressed frustration with what he perceived as Ottawa’s lack of action in controlling the influx of temporary immigrants in Quebec, particularly asylum seekers.
Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre announced plans to present a motion of non-confidence in the government on Sept. 24, challenging NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh to support it.
The Conservatives do not have sufficient votes to pass the motion with only one of the Bloc or the NDP.
